Howdy bees! Did you know that today marks the official first day of Spring 2017? Yep, that’s right, it’s time to stop hibernating in your hives with Netflix (apart from Sundayzzz of course), put away the winter coats and get out that summer wardrobe again! Ok, perhaps a little optimistic, but that sunshine can’t be so far away?!).
As well creating bee-liciously healthy drinks, you’ll probably know that we’re on a mission to Save The Bees! And recently bees have been struggling (some species have died out altogether), yet they are vital to pollinating A THIRD of all the food we eat – not just for making honey! Well guess what – you can help us Save The Bees. We are giving out FREE wildflower seeds, which provides bees with food and shelter. We’ll also provide a free planting guide in case you’re a new-bee planter! Read on to find out more…
So why should we care about the bees?

Bees are extremely important to our food and environment. In fact, Albert Einstein once said “If bees die out, mankind has 4 years left to live. No more bees, no more pollination, no more food.” They reckon an estimated 1/3 of all food depends on bees and other pollinators. 70 different types of crops including apples, strawberries, almonds, coffee (that’s the double shot lattes gone then!), cotton (there goes your favourite white t-shirt) and avocadoes (say goodbye to avocado toast) and are estimated to contribute over £1.8bn per year to the UK economy – GO BEES! However, due to factors such as increased uses of pesticides, climate change, and loss of green space and flowers, the bee population has taken a dip in recent years.
But it’s not all DOOM and GLOOM, cos we got a plan!
Yep that’s right, we can all help and its dead easy! It’s time to dig out your wellington boots, find your shovel, get yourself outside and start planting for the bees!
Bees need flowers for shelter and their 2 basic food stuffs – nectar (turns into honey!) and pollen (protein for the baby bees). And growing couldn’t be simpler. You don’t have to be an expert gardener and you don’t need a huge amount of space. You can get FREE SEEDS from our website (See link at the end of the blog) and you can plant wherever suits you, in patio pots, window boxes, flower beds, hanging baskets, or even a few empty Just Bee cartons (see below!). All you need to do is place them somewhere where they’ll get plenty of sunlight and make sure to water them regularly.

We suggest planting early, planting a mix of flowers (our seeds have 30 different varieties in them!) and planting throughout the season. In fact, the greater the variety of flowers the better. Think of your garden like an ice cream menu. You wouldn’t only want vanilla to choose from. Neither do bees – they love the occasional scoop of chocolate, strawberry and salted caramel too (that was a metaphor, please do not feed bees ice cream!).
OK, does this sound like a fun task for the weekend?!
